Jewelry Care

maintaining your jewelry is key to ensuring its beauty for a lifetime

How to properly Care for your jewelry

Properly caring for your jewelry is essential for long-lasting wear and preservation. Learn how to clean, store, and avoid wearing in certain situations. Explore care tips based on metal type, gemstones, pearls, wood, bone, beaded jewelry, and vintage items.

Nurturing your jewelry through its distinct Metals

The Top 3 Metals we use in our jewelry

Let's begin by looking at what defines these metals to give you better understanding of how to properly care for each type. By knowing the properties of different metals, you can extend the longevity of your jewelry and prevent any damage or tarnishing.

14/20 Gold Fill

Gold fill is a layer of gold that is mechanically bonded to a base metal. It is thicker and more durable than gold plating, making it a popular choice for jewelry. The layer of gold in gold fill jewelry is typically 5% or 10% of the total weight.

.925 Sterling Silver

Sterling silver is an alloy consisting of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals. This composition makes sterling silver durable and suitable for everyday wear. The addition of other metals increases the hardness and strength of the silver.

18K Gold Vermeil

18k gold vermeil is plated over a .925 sterling silver base. To qualify as vermeil, the gold layer must be at least 2.5 microns thick to be considered true vermeil. The 18k indicates that the gold layer is 18k, meaning it contains 75% pure gold.

14/20 Gold Fill Care

To maintain 14k gold fill jewelry, ensure it stays dry, store it separately, and prevent contact with chemicals like perfumes and lotions. Use a soft cloth for regular cleaning and consider a deeper cleanse with mild soap and warm water every few months, especially post exposure to sweat or chemicals.

DAILY CARE:

  • Keep it Dry: Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture, sweat, and humidity.
  • Clean with a Soft Cloth: Wipe down your jewelry with a soft, non-scratch cloth after each wear to remove oils and makeup.
  • Avoid Chemicals: Keep it away from perfumes, lotions, sunscreen, and hairspray.
  • Remove Before Sleep: Taking your jewelry off before you sleep can help it last longer.

STORAGE:

  • Individual Storage:Store each piece of jewelry separately in an airtight plastic bag or pouch to prevent it from rubbing against other pieces and potentially losing its shine.
  • Dry, Cool Place:Keep your jewelry in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity.

DEEP CLEANING Your

GOLD FILL JEWELRY

  • Soak in Warm Water: If your jewelry has been exposed to sweat, chemicals, or needs a deeper clean, soak it in a bowl of warm water with a drop of mild soap for about a minute.
  • Gently Scrub: Use an ultra-soft toothbrush to scrub the jewelry, paying attention to areas where dirt and products might build up.
  • Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse the jewelry in lukewarm water several times to ensure all soap is removed.
  • Dry Completely: Dry your jewelry thoroughly with a soft cloth before storing it.
